Demographics • Basalt
Only about twenty miles down the Roaring Fork River from Aspen, Basalt is where real estate prices begin to come into reach for those of the population that are not necessarily in the top five percent of earnings and wealth. Basalt is a quaint mountain community located at the confluence the Fryingpan and the Roaring Fork Rivers. Both rivers are Gold Medal trout fishing rivers. Basalt began as a railroad town and was, in fact, named Aspen Junction until 1895. The current name of Basalt was taken from the Basaltic rock formation now known as Basalt Mountain situated to the north of the town. Basalt has experienced dramatic growth over the past ten years as the billionaires have pushed the millionaires ‘down valley'. Basalt has a small town feel and the residents take pride in their community. Basalt has unique shops, galleries and restaurants.
Basalt real estate has become a valued commodity over the past ten years. With its close proximity to Aspen and Snowmass, many people have rushed in to take part in the ever increasing appreciation.
